Who Needs a Formal Living Room?

We don’t but we did need a main floor playroom.  Technically the playroom is really the formal living room.  It is in the front of the house opposite the dining room.   The wall color was white with pink undertones and the trim was the same color as the walls.  This is what it looked like before we moved in.

Before (real estate listing picture):

To Do

  • Paint walls & trim
  • Paint brass outlet covers
  • Replace ivory outlet covers w/ white ones
  • Remove cellular shades
  • Install 2″ wood blinds
  • Hang stuff on walls

This room has been evolving over the months.  We did not have it painted initially when the family room & dining room were done because we thought it would be easy to do ourselves.  I got a new slipcover (here) for the futon that used to be in the office in our last house and added a couple pillows and a bean bag.  Futon covers in current fabrics are really hard to find so I was excited when I found this one.  I added a couple IKEA Expedits for easy toy & book storage, but the room still looked bland and uninviting .

After a few months went by and we still had not painted this room, we decided to add it on to the basement project when the painters were back in July.   The walls are SW Breezy & the trim in the same white as the rest of the house.  I didn’t want to go with anything too bold or bright since you can see this room from the dining room and foyer.

I’ve installed 2″ wood blinds on the windows and removed the baby gate after taking this picture.

Here’s a fun detail of the ball pit in the corner.  It is a cheap blow up pool filled with about 400 ball pit balls and random other ball toys.  Liam loves it!

To Do

  • Paint walls & trim
  • Paint brass outlet covers
  • Replace ivory outlet covers w/ white ones
  • Remove cellular shades
  • Install 2″ wood blinds
  • Hang stuff on walls (in process)

Here’s a little sneak peak of the art that I have planned for the wall over the futon.
